I was recently asked to consult on a friend's style conundrum: the dress she bought was beautiful, particularly the skirt with its gorgeous rust-orange color, though something was off. In order to look great, it is sometimes important not to be afraid to take extreme measures in order to achieve style heaven. So I told her to chop off the top, which had been placed at an unflattering angle to the skirt -far too high giving the skirt an even more unflattering look on the hip. By cutting the top off and inserting an elastic (an invisible belt) into the skirt, it became a life of its own and "hung" on the perfect spot on the hip/waist.
Now dear chicette, take a look at these two looks from the Valentino Spring 2012 Couture. There is something odd about them. Granted, the prints are mesmerisingly beautiful and the fabrics are equally luxe. But the balance between the top and the bottom is missing similarly to my friend's odd dress. Essentially, I would go as far as to advise the same here: Cut off the top from the bottom piece and combine those then absolutely adorable tops with white skinny jeans or leather leggings. It will look just divine. And don't forget a furry cream jacket/coat to stay snugly warm in. Voila!
