Peplum's a Plenty (posted on 04/03/2012)

Givenchy is usually my go-to-brand for unabashedly outstanding style and design. Dear chicette take a look at the look on the top. This is a great example of a look that has been over-designed taking the beauty and wearability away from it in the process. Though peplums are praised to be the trend right now. One needs to be cautious when utilizing this add-on accessory on a garment. Jil Sander's use of peplums last year was just divine as they were used in a minimal way and thus did not scream for attention. In the said Givenchy look, the peplum element in combination with the many other design points used and included into this dress results in an overall confusion as to what the message should be. Also, I am wondering why a chiffon shirt was added in addition underneath this crazy dress?? In my opinion the dress should be stripped of the collar shirt and the design elements and simply stay a waistcoat and a skirt in this fantastic color.
The look above is more tolerable. I like the top and its fantasy construction with fabrics such as chiffon and satin. The collar sticking out does not bother me as much as it does on the dress look. But I must say that the trousers are too surf look for me to work here.
