Love To Hate: Alexander McQueen, Chloe, DKNY, Oscar de la Renta (posted on 07/05/2012)

Some designs are not meant to be worn and loved. Some items are meant to be seen, or rather "experienced" once and then always forgotten because if one was insane enough to purchase those creations, one would never be happy wearing them.
The above four are my "Love To Hate" items right now as they are pretty to see, but not to wear.
There is a fine line of what I would call "good crazy". Once that line is crossed, one ventures into the "bad crazy", insane territory of looking just hideous. The above items cross this line, some more, some less.
McQueen's wedge is pretty to behold but seriously painful to walk in. The Chloe dress looks merely acceptable on the runway. Though it has some of the prettiest colors spring has to offer, its shape is painful and does nothing for even the skinniest Minnie.
I love the DKNY scarf top at first sight. But after a couple of minutes of trying to imagine its possibilities, I am reminded that this is literally what it states to be in its title, a scarf top. This is like food ingredients, the thing that comes first is usually the main ingredient. And in this case, there is a lot of scarf in this top variation and as such it is no good as a top. Lastly, the Oscar de la Renta frill over-kill. To me this is the personification of how bad sugar is for you visualized in a fashion garment. And then the hideous shoes, the fishnet tights and the headband....A lot has gone wrong here.
To make a long story short: simplicity is sometimes your best friend.
