I recently came across this gorgeous picture of Lindsey Vonn, which appeared in US Vogue's August 2013 issue.
I love the fierce attitude in her face and body.
A body in motion is an almost more believable body as it signals very clearly that it is alive.
The above is a perfect picture in that it feels as if it was taken in the moment, as if it was a lucky shot 'getting it just right'.
In the usual fashion editorials we are almost always certain when looking upon them that they are staged, the situations, the movements (if there are any), the bodies and most importantly the faces.
Above, Lindsey seems fierce because she does not pose obviously. Her face could be interpreted as concentrating, critically taking apart the jump she is undertaking at that exact moment.
Her face is the marker that states 'here is a body and mind at work'; both create this jump, both are ambiguously entwined.
Yet it still is a staged scene which can be clearly seen by the safety gear around Lindsey's waist as well as the golden suit which speaks more Vogue than sports.
