I went into reading the article titled "How to Be Good" on Alison Loehnis' success in September's UK Harpers Bazaar thinking I would know the contents having read countless of fashion CEO stories which all have a similar vibe. But I need to admit, I was surprised and pleased to see what I found. It is easy to judge but one needs to be open enough to give people and things chances. And so I did.
When I came across the following I literally sat up, "I just went with what I thought would be interesting. I've never had a career plan. I've gone with my gut, and I've followed my heart." This drew me in as I've had a similar sense of direction, which could appear superficially as 'too' varied. But when one correlates the fast-moving worlds of business, finance, commerce, economy, etc. then it makes more than sense to have an open, curious and all-encompassing approach. Flexibility is another word that comes to mind.
What truly sealed the deal here though is when I read her words in the closing paragraph: "I'm not a believer in 'having it all'. You can have a career, a fulfilling home life and a social life, but the three can't be at full throttle simultaneously, and for me, the time with my family is the most important thing in the world." I could not agree more here. It is all about prioritisation.
