Fall Astray: Jacobs & Vuitton (posted on 12/08/2012)

I am dreading this fall.
If the ads are anything to go by, then it is going to be just a horrendous season.
The above ads by Marc Jocobs and his eponymous other label Louis Vuitton are just a selection of disgusting design that is to come. Before writing this blog post, I worked through a couple of my standard fashion fare such as US Vogue, ELLE, and Harpers as well as the UK versions and German versions, and found myself depressed at the end of it.
Artistically speaking, Louis Vuitton's ads are interesting, creative and full of wonderment. Similar to a Bacon piece at the TATE Museum: I see it, stop and stare in shock and slight curiosity as to how such a horrendous creative act could have been committed and then simply pass it by to get away from such monstrosity as quickly as possible.
Sad to say but true. Usually I find myself transfixed by Jacobs' creative genius for Louis Vuitton. Clearly non-existent this season as he simply created an ugly Doppelgänger of his main line for his Louis Vuitton line.
Jacobs is not alone in creating weird clothes that are neither beautiful nor chic or anything remotely wearable. Prada is another contender of odd designs for fall. Not overtly painful as MJ or LV but in nevertheless fairly outrageous fabrics.
If you are seeking an "off-season" where you are free to roam the streets a la Frankenstein or Barbarella on crack, then feel to free to step into these Harry Potters of the 1600s creations. But be warned, people, us, everyone else, who has had the guts to say no to this creative humbug, will not recognize in you a fashion insider but rather a zombie, without brain and power, just a plain follower of a cult.
And a follower is never a good thing to be.
