Designers have been trying to persuade us to venture into nature’s repertoire and adopt a blooming look.
Dear reader, imagine yourself donning one of Raf Simons’ for Jil Sander 2011 fall ready-to-wear looks, the flower sack dress. The material of unquestionable exquisite quality cannot mask the utter hopelessness of the shape. The romantic rose motif printed on a very dark royal blue fails to evoke nature’s freedom though. Where the print delivers in visual satisfaction, the shape then denies the eye its previously acquired pleasure. If it is a pregnancy halter or rather a coat turned around to hide its buttons, one cannot be sure. The model’s figure has gained in size as the dress is not enhancing her attributes rather than creating volume and thickness. Further, it seems that she has aged in a heartbeat.
A viable flowery alternative to try, dear reader, is D&G’s 2011 spring ready-to-wear look. Generous lotus-coloured rose petals fill the space on a creamy silken background printed on a flowing and blooming concoction. Pair this with a leather biker in a tough black or in a softer cream combined with long hair -straight or curly is your choice- and you’ll gain youth points. Add some sultry golden heels and you’ll look “To Die For”, according to Rachel Zoe’s style philosophy. Even with a pair of classic caramel brown leather gladiators or t-strap flats and a matching belt, you can achieve a chic, classic and cool look.
