Stunning body of work.
"A work of mine is for everyone, and everyone is the work, together with the sun, the wind and the rain," is Christo's motive and drive. His art - while clearly visual stimulation and visceral provocateur par excellence is not all about the seemingly obvious but also about the lingering, the other not directly perceived.
I remember when I was studying, working and generally soaking up New York's art scene I came across his work time and time again. Always a glimmer of this mesmerising orange popped up somewhere or another. But I also remember not venturing into finding out more.
Recently I decided into reading a short about this ominous Christo by Umberta Beretta, the wife of Franco, whose family owns Lake Iseo in Lombardy, Italy.
Intriguingly I read about the journey Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude had taken in order to get the idea for The Floating Piers approved and signed off.
And I must admit, I would have loved feeling the sensation of walking on water as envisioned and brought to life by Christo and his wife on Lake Iseo.
