"I really want to find the language that is universal, not just for the art elite. Art is not a luxury, it is a necessity, " Marina is quoted in a fascinating article published in Harpers Bazaar UK's Women in Art Magazine. Marina is not directly likeable, nor is her work. But her language and her approach is universal as she simply goes back to the root of all humanness - to ones emotions.
And yet time and time again it is the relationship or symbiosis of the performer and his/her audience that is explored, tested and tried. How far does ones body last throughout Marina's sheer willpower tests as her exhibitions are more about the strength of her mind than they are about the other, the viewer. She is powerful and it seems her mind even more so and she plays with the other, the audience, the viewer, me, you in order to see when we will fall, react, become emotional ultimately.
